In October of 2023 I departed New Zealand for Innsbruck, Austria, the start of a completely new adventure.
It was during my time here, that I realised just how important sport was to the lives of so many people.
As I adjusted to the new environment around me, sport quickly became a way of life, as it is for the locals.
From the facilities to the infrastructure and the accessibility, I had encountered another level of sporting opportunities, where the potential for success is so high. A melting pot of different sports and athletes nestled in one relatively small city in the heart of the alps, it exceeded every single expectation I had.
This is what had captured my imagination in the first instance, after my first time in Innsbruck representing New Zealand at the 2023 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships, a life-changing experience.
As someone who wanted to have a career in sports, I started to put together the pieces of a bigger picture.
While I embrace every aspect of my new European life, I still have a strong connection to my homeland and how all of the experiences that I had through sport, help lead me to the point where I am today.
Through this I knew that there is an important link between those sportspeople and athletes who are far away from the nucleus of their chosen sport and needing to be connected to the huge and diverse global sporting sphere.
It is evident that for many athletes that Europe offers the best venues, training opportunities, athletes and the pinnacle arena of their respective competition.
While on the other hand, for example, many players desire in coming to New Zealand and Australia from the growing number of Rugby playing nations worldwide.
Southern Cross Sports looks forward to working with exciting and dedicated athletes.
